Idaho PTSD and Your Animal: PSD Letters and ESA Letters
After trauma, a trained dog can help you get back out into the world, and Idaho law spells out where that dog may go. After a free screening, a clinician licensed in Idaho looks at which letter, if any, matches what your animal does: a psychiatric service dog letter or an emotional support animal letter.
Where Idaho Code 18-5812A Applies
A person with a disability may not be turned away from any of these because of a service dog.
What Your Idaho Evaluation Looks At
The clinician asks how trauma symptoms show up in your days and what your animal does about them, without pressing for more detail than you want to share. Idaho's service dog definition reaches psychiatric disabilities, so training is the deciding question.

Talk it through first
Initial inquiries to the Idaho Human Rights Commission are treated confidentially.
File under oath
A sworn complaint has to reach the Commission within one year of the discrimination.
Informal steps first
Before anything formal, the Commission works toward an informal resolution.
Allow time
The Commission says the process may take up to a year from the filing date.
